Shimon Sakaguchi’s group (Experimental Immunology) and others revealed that Colorectal cancers (CRCs), which are commonly infiltrated by suppression-competent FOXP3hi regulatory T (Treg) cells, can be classified into two types by the degree of additional infiltration of FOXP3lo nonsuppressive T cells. CRCs with abundant infiltration of FOXP3 lo T cells showed significantly better prognosis than those with predominantly FOXP3hi Treg cell infiltration.
The results found an effective way to distinguish target patients of cancer immunotherapy for CRCs, and will contribute to the development of cancer immunotherapy targeting Treg cells.
